Mitch Ruffalo, as president elect, led the meeting, filling in for Melissa who was spending time with her mother who is home following a recent surgery.  Steve Hallagan opened our meeting with a prayer.

Andrew Muldoon was a guest of Frank All.  Andrew was our speaker for Thursday’s program.

 

WELLNESS REPORT

Marge Gile joined us on zoom with no members reporting any illnesses.  She did mention how Covid is affecting many businesses.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Mitch requested that we contribute to “tips” for Mary and her staff as an annual gift.

Susan Hasenauer, as Superintendent of Newark Schools, announced that the High School is in need of a new boiler and air conditioner - the project includes items for $15.4 million.  She also reported that there is one open board seat.

Holly Kreuser reported that they have a great group of Interact students this year.  They are planning a bottle and can drive ahead of the Garbage Plate fundraiser that will take place in April when Chrissy Kent will be available to host this event at the “First Glass”

Russ  Harris announced that we have 3 candidates for outbound exchange students who will be coming to meet us.  We will have one student coming to Newark from abroad.

Tim Johnson announced that he recently learned of the deaths of John and Martha Watkins last year in Virginia.  John was the Chaplin at the hospital.

 

BREIF BIO - BOB BENDIX

Bob was born at Strong Hospital and grew up in Penfield, Sodus and then Newark.

Bob has a 4 year degree from Fredonia State University majoring in English and journalism.  (I think he should be writing this newsletter - had I known!)

Bob’s work history includes Fold Pak in Newark, customer service and sales in NYC, Newark Stationery, a winery on Seneca Lake,and marketing for Mobil Chemical.  He started his own business in office furniture and interiors in 1983 until retirement in 2020.

Bob and Jean have been married for 35 years(jean noted she was a child bride - now being only 45.)  They have 2 married daughters, 2 dogs and a diabetic cat!

Bob loves to garden, fish and be active in Rotary as well as travel. he is a trustee of the village of Newark running for a 3rd term.

Bob is a Replacement Heart Valve Survivor with a pacemaker/defibrulator back up for which Jean holds the REMOTE!

 

HAPPY MOMENTS

Mitch Ruffalo was happy to see all the Rotarians able to make it to our Thursday lunch .

Not to mention all the zoomers.

Jean Bendix shared 2 funny episodes showing her LACK of technical knowledge - trying to take her temperature at the blood drive with a scanner and attempting to fill her tires with washer fluid at the new car wash. 

Jean does know how to keep us laughing!

 

 

 

SPEAKER - ANDREW MULDOON

Frank All introduced our speaker.  Andrew is the VP of Philanthropic Engagement for the Rochester Area Community Foundation.  Frank’s connection is the scholarship that has been awarded for 17 years to a Newark High School student in honor of his late wife Sharon. 

Andrew has always been involved in fundraising. He wants to help people support something they care about.  His slide show explained the process, how as stewards you can watch funds grow strengthening our area through philanthropy.  He meets

with people every day to raise money for grant making goals to help prevent poverty.  Last year alone he provided 36 grants. 

Steve Hallagan praised Frank for his contribution to the Newark Community.  Frank appreciates Andrews programs that make giving JOYFUL AND EASY!
